The job won't be handed to Mullens, though. He'll have to compete with former third-round draft pick and fellow third-year quarterback C.J. Beathard. Beathard got the call to start after Garoppolo suffered a season-ending ACL injury in September.
Mullens, 24, started during a Week 9 matchup against the Oakland Raiders after Beathard was injured and never relinquished the job.
Mullens has been training this offseason with QB Country, a quarterback training and development center with multiple locations across the country. QB Country released the following video via Twitter of Mullens' sessions.
Mullens and Beathard will get the majority of offseason snaps until the rehabbing Garoppolo begins throwing in late-May or so.
The 49ers signed Mullens as an undrafted free agent out of Southern Miss in 2017. He completed 176-of-274 attempts (64.2 percent) for 2,277 yards with 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions through eight starts with the 49ers in 2018.
H/t to Patrick Tulini for the find.
