Also of note is that Mostert and his agent were in discussions with the 49ers about a multi-year deal for the running back to stay with the team but have opted to accept the tendered contract.
The tender amount placed on Mostert is only $2.025 million, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. That means another team could acquire him before April 19 without the 49ers receiving compensation. San Francisco, however, would have the option of matching any offer. The running back is coming off an injury but is healthy now.
The Philadelphia Eagles signed Mostert as an undrafted free agent out of Purdue in 2015. He spent time with the Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, and Chicago Bears before signing with San Francisco on November 28, 2016.
Mostert, who served mostly as a special teams standout before this past year, was having his best NFL season rushing the football in 2018 before suffering a fractured right forearm during a Week 9 contest against the Oakland Raiders. He finished the season with career-highs of 261 rushing yards on 34 carries (7.7 yards per carry) with a touchdown while adding six catches for 25 receiving yards through nine games.
"We went into this year just with Raheem mainly as a special teams guy," head coach Kyle Shanahan said in December. "The games that he played in where he got a go at running back, he did a hell of a job."
Update: Tessler later added that he and his client have decided to go with the tendered offer but have yet to sign the contract. They plan to see what the market can offer in the coming weeks.
