Sweat's second run of the day was equally impressive, coming in at an unofficial time of 4.46 seconds. He didn't have to make his second run after the impressive first-run number but committed to doing so.
Sweat's 40-time was the fastest so far among Sunday's participants, which include edge rushers, defensive linemen, and linebackers.
Below are the top-5 40-times among edge rushers, as of this post.
| Name | School | 40-time |
| Montez Sweat | Mississippi State | 4.41 |
| Brian Burns | Florida State | 4.53 |
| Chase Winovich | Michigan | 4.59 |
| Jamal Davis | Akron | 4.60 |
| Ben Banogu | TCU | 4.62 |
The San Francisco 49ers need to add a pass rusher this offseason and got a good look at Sweat in January. The defensive player was part of the South squad, which was coached by Kyle Shanahan and his staff, at the Senior Bowl.
Sweat had back-to-back double-digit sack totals with the Bulldogs over the past two seasons, including a 12-sack campaign during his senior year in 2018.
One of the concerns around Sweat is his dismissal from Michigan State after being suspended indefinitely during the 2015 season for what the school described as a violation of team rules. He spent one season at Copiah-Lincoln Community College before joining Mississippi State.
Sweat told reporters on Saturday that the whole experience was humbling and helped him mature into the player he is today.
"My time at Michigan State, I started off kind of young and immature," Sweat said. "Obviously, I was dismissed, but I've grown from that so much and I just want to keep on building on that and show teams I've matured a lot."
Sweat did add that he has been open with the NFL teams he has spoken with but prefers not to discuss the details surrounding the dismissal with the media.
At the NFL Scouting Combine, the 6-foot-6 and 260-pound Sweat had 21 reps in the bench press. Other measurables for Sweat include an arm length of 35 3/4 inches and hands that measure 10 1/2 inches.
