The NFL hit San Francisco 49ers safety Antone Exum with a hefty $53,482 fine for his hit on wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton during the fourth quarter of last weekend's 20-14 victory over the Denver Broncos, reports Matt Barrows of The Athletic.

Ouch indeed.

The unnecessary roughness penalty of 15 yards resulted in the Broncos' longest play (33 yards) of the game, according to NFL statistics. The drive eventually led to a Denver touchdown pass from quarterback Case Keenum to Hamilton, which brought the Broncos to within six late in the game.

Exum finished the game with three tackles.
