Injury notes from Wednesday:
- Neither RB Matt Breida nor WR Pierre Garçon practiced. Head coach Kyle Shanahan discussed both players before practice.
- Both CB Richard Sherman and CB Jimmie Ward returned to practice after being inactive against the Rams. Shanahan would not reveal to reporters whether Ward will receive reps at cornerback or be moved back to safety. The 49ers lost starting safety Adrian Colbert for the season due to a high-ankle sprain suffered against the Los Angeles Rams.
- WR Dante Pettis returned to practice after missing the past three games.
Shanahan is excited to get Pettis, who injured his knee on September 30 against the Los Angeles Chargers, back on the practice field.
"He's going to practice today," Shanahan told reporters. "So, it excites us. He tried to go last week at this time, but it was just a walk-through. You could tell through the walk-through, just watching him and talking to him, that it was too soon. We gave him a whole another week. He feels good. He's excited to go today."
While Breida did not practice, Shanahan sounded optimistic about the running back's potential status for Sunday.
"We're going to look at him throughout the week," Shanahan said. "He's looking a lot better these last two days than he did on Sunday. We'll definitely give him today off. We'll see how he is tomorrow and, if he's good, we'll throw him in practice and evaluate him from there."
Below are Wednesday's practice participation reports for both the 49ers and Cardinals, which were provided by the 49ers Communications staff.
