The 49ers being an overwhelming favorite in betting numbers makes some sense. While not all bets come from in-state residents, the 49ers are positioned relatively close to Nevada compared to most other NFL franchises with portions of the state often included within the extended local broadcast areas for the team's games. However, the Oakland Raiders are just as close and will relocate to Las Vegas once their nearly $2 billion stadium near the Las Vegas Strip is complete.
As stated within the tweet, Wiliam Hill books in New Jersey are seeing more money bet on the New York Giants to win the Super Bowl than any other NFL team, which would indicate that team proximity plays a big part in the statistic.
Despite the 49ers and Raiders finishing with matching 6-10 records, the former have better Super Bowl odds heading into the 2018 season than the latter.
Regardless of the reasoning for the betting numbers, there is a lot of excitement surrounding the 49ers this season, which is evident in the five prime-time games given to the team by NFL schedule makers. Much of that excitement is due to how the 49ers finished last season. After a dreadful 0-9 start, the team won six of its last seven games including a five-game win streak to end the season.
The over/under for 49ers wins in 2018 is 8.5 games, according to the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook.
