The Pittsburgh Steelers signed Goodwin (6-4, 220) as an undrafted free agent on May 4, 2014. He joined the Atlanta Falcons on January 5, 2016, after spending the majority of his first two NFL seasons on Pittsburgh's practice squad. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was the offensive coordinator in Atlanta in 2016 while Goodwin was with the squad.
Goodwin appeared in 26 games with one start for Atlanta. During that time, he registered 12 tackles with two passes defensed while adding three more tackles and a pass defensed in three playoff games. Atlanta waived Goodwin on December 14, 2017. The Arizona Cardinals claimed him off of waivers, and he appeared in two more games in 2017.
Arizona waived Goodwin on May 1, and he spent nearly two weeks with the Giants after that before being waived again.
Woodson (6-2, 280) played college football at the University of Delaware. In five years, he appeared in 45 games with 44 starts and registered 159 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss, 14.5 sacks, one interception, one pass defensed, and one forced fumble. In 2017, he started 11 games and recorded 55 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception, and one forced fumble.
Woodson was among the tryout players the 49ers invited to their rookie minicamp on May 4 and 5.
The 49ers signed Carter to a two-year deal on February 24, 2017, and the former Sacramento State star spent last season on the team's practice squad.
