49ers get: 95th-overall pick
Patriots get: 143rd-overall pick, Trent Brown
UPDATE: The deal has been completed. Brown was already in New England and passed his physical, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
The trade gives the 49ers three selections in the third round in addition to their second-round pick at No. 59 overall. If there is a player the 49ers covet higher in the second round, they now have a good number of picks to allow a move.
Brown, who has been with the 49ers for three seasons, was selected by the team in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft. He has played in 31 games with the 49ers and started all but three of those appearances. All three were during his rookie season.
Brown injured his shoulder during practice on Thanksgiving Day last year. While he came back and played against the Chicago Bears during Week 13, the injury did not go away. Brown missed the final four games of the season and landed on injured reserve.
Trade talk surrounding Brown gained momentum on Thursday when it was reported the 49ers were speaking with the Denver Broncos about a potential deal. Later, Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst stated that Brown reported to the 49ers' offseason program out of shape and the team had concerns about his recovery.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan stated on Thursday night that Brown is expected to be healthy in time for training camp. The 49ers used their first-round selection, the ninth-overall, to pick Notre Dame tackle Mike McGlinchey. Shanahan said he would play right tackle.
