What would it mean for Meeks to be on the same team as All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman, who was signed by the 49ers last month? Meeks tries to model his game after the 49ers cornerback.
"That would be a dream come true just to learn from the best," Meeks told reporters following the local pro day workout. "I think he's still the best corner in the game right now. It takes someone who really knows how to study corners to see what he does really well. He always disrupts the receivers, the amount of times he gets thrown at in a game is very little. It's because if you throw at him, there's a big chance that it's going to get intercepted.
"He's still the best in the game, in my opinion, until otherwise."
Meeks said he spoke with Sherman when he signed with the 49ers and offered him congratulations. Sherman, who was with the Seattle Seahawks at the time, would provide Meeks with advice and tips over the course of last season. Sherman also played collegiate football for Stanford.
Did Sherman's advice help?
"He gave me some tips, and I locked down the game, didn't allow a single catch," Meeks said.
Another aspect of Sherman's game that Meeks admires is his film study, which the draft prospect also tries to mimic.
"The biggest thing I take from him is his film study," he continued. "I watch hours of film every week, about two hours a day during the season just to make the game easier. That's something that he does, and his success shows."
NFL.com projects Meeks to be a fourth- or fifth-round selection in the draft, which kicks off next week.
Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area provided the videos below.
Here is a video of Meeks working out for 49ers coaches during the local pro day.
Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group asked Meeks how much interest NFL teams, like the 49ers, have shown in him.
"A lot so far," he answered. "So far, a lot of teams are showing a lot of interest. There's not a lot of really tall corners in this draft, so that puts a lot of value. Also, some teams are actually looking at me as a safety because of my size and everything. Kind of a mixture of everything but everybody likes my tape, my size, my preparation."
