While there have been no reports of a visit scheduled with the 49ers, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported last week that Amerson had three visits with NFL teams this week, with one of them apparently being the Texans.
The Raiders cut Amerson on February 5. ESPN's Field Yates reported that the move was made because the cornerback's base salary of $5.5 million for 2018 would have become fully guaranteed on February 7.
Amerson was a second-round draft pick out of North Carolina State by the Washington Redskins in 2013. He was waived by Washington in 2015 and then claimed off of waivers by the Raiders and then signed a four-year, $35 million extension with Oakland in 2016.
During his first two seasons in Oakland (2015, 2016), Amerson appeared in 29 games (27 starts) and registered 122 combined tackles, six interceptions, 41 passes defensed, and a forced fumble. A foot sprain suffered during Week 7 of the 2017 season limited him to just six games. Amerson had only 18 combined tackles and four passes defensed last season.
Amerson has started 56 career NFL games through five seasons. Over his career, he has registered 251 combined tackles, eight interceptions, 63 passes defensed, and two forced fumbles. Amerson also returned two interceptions for touchdowns.
