Safety Jimmie Ward suffered a fractured forearm during Sunday's 33-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. The injury occurred during the first quarter following a tackle on a 15-yard pass to Eagles tight end Trey Burton.

After some time on the field, Ward was taken to the locker room for further observation and was ruled out. Rookie Adrian Colbert replaced him.

After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan informed the media that Ward's forearm was fractured.

"I don't know exactly the part but his arm was broken in some manner," Shanahan said.

Left tackle Joe Staley exited the game after sustaining a gash beneath his right eye. The injury occurred following an interception by Eagles cornerback Jalen Mills when defensive lineman Fletcher Cox blocked Staley during the return.

Following the injury, Staley received stitches under his eye and needed additional tests to check for a possible broken orbital. He was taken to a local hospital for X-rays following the injury.


"I know he needed stitches," Shanahan said. "I think they took him to look at his orbital. It was really swollen up and you could see at halftime that he had no chance to get back in and I know he was trying to do everything he could but he was definitely way too hurt."
