In April, Brock was accused of punching his 31-year-old girlfriend in the face and attempting to strangle her. The cornerback denied the charges against him. Those charges were dismissed on August 9.
There had been a report that the 49ers might be interested in having Brock return to the team, but a team spokesman and head coach Kyle Shanahan denied the claim and stated that the 49ers had no interest in re-signing their former starting cornerback.
Brock's agent, Ron Slavin, told ESPN that the 49ers were lying and the team indeed contacted him once the charges were dropped.
"The 49ers denied it, but they called me the minute [Brock's case] got dismissed and wanted him back," said Slavin.
Brock started all 16 games at cornerback for the 49ers in 2016. He spent his entire career with San Francisco after signing with the team as an undrafted free agent out of Belhaven in 2010. Over seven seasons with the 49ers, Brock had 181 tackles, 11 interceptions, a touchdown, and two forced fumbles. In 2016, Brock was the 49ers' top graded defensive back and the third-highest graded defensive player, according to Pro Football Focus.
