San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Pierre Garçon joined KNBR's "Murph & Mac" show on Thursday. He was among the players signed by the 49ers on the opening day of free agency. Garçon discussed a number of topics, including why he decided to sign with a team that went 2-14 last season and has fallen on hard times in recent years.

"The past couple of years doesn't matter," Garçon said. "Football is -- things could around in one year. I truly believe in that. I truly believe in Kyle Shanahan and his offense. That's the main reason why I signed up because of the familiarity with Kyle and his staff and the offense. I know the offense is going to move the ball up and down the field. We're going to score points. We're going to do things to help the team win on the offensive side of the ball. That's the main reason I came here.

"I didn't worry about the history of the past few years. I feel that can change around in one year, one play, one red zone conversion, one third-down conversion. I know all that could change so it's not a big deal about the past. It's about the future and I was comfortable about the future with Kyle Shanahan."

Garçon went on to describe Shanahan as a great guy who is energetic and diligent when it comes to studying an opponent. "I know the offense, we'll be prepared," Garçon said. "The offense will have opportunities and we'll make plays."

General manager John Lynch's and Shanahan's first draft with the team – and first draft as an NFL executive and head coach, respectively – has received very positive reviews by analysts. Some have said that the rookie general manager looked like a seasoned veteran in his handling of the 49ers' draft and ability to acquire additional picks. What did Garçon and his teammates think about the outcome of the team's draft?

"I think [Lynch] did an amazing job," Garçon said. "We were all blown away by the moves and the trades and the picks and all that stuff."

Garçon also realizes that one good draft will not change the 49ers overnight and that the team's rebuild will take time. He obviously has a lot of confidence in Shanahan and Lynch or he would not have chosen to sign with the 49ers.
