Cohn was answering a fan who was asking, "Why do you feel A. Lynch might get cut?"
In a previous tweet, Cohn listed Lynch as a possible Trent Baalke draft pick cut candidate by the new 49ers regime. Others on the list include tight end Vance McDonald, who the 49ers attempted to trade during the draft, and wide receiver Bruce Ellington, who has had a problem staying healthy.
According to Cohn, Lynch currently weighs about 290 pounds – 20 pounds heavier than his 270-pounds listed weight.
Lynch was a fifth-round draft pick out of South Florida in the 2014 NFL Draft. During his first two seasons in the NFL, Lynch accumulated 12.5 sacks as the team's most productive pass rusher. He had just 1.5 sacks in 2016 after missing the first four games for violating the NFL substance abuse policy and dealing with a high ankle sprain later in the season – forcing him to miss five more games.
The rest of the 49ers return to the team on May 8th following San Francisco's rookie minicamp this weekend.
