Johnny Holland confident 49ers' Dre Greenlaw will make a strong comeback

Dre Greenlaw suffered a devastating injury during February's Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, tearing his Achilles and missing half the game. The San Francisco 49ers linebacker has been on the challenging road to recovery since then.
Greenlaw's progress appears promising. He attended the Dwight Clark Legacy Series event last week without a protective boot and seemed to be moving well as he walked on stage to accept the prestigious Dwight Clark Award.
"It's a long, long, slow process," Greenlaw told the audience at the California Theatre in San Jose. "I'm feeling really, really good, though. I'm happy to be able to walk on the stage, actually."

Brandon Staley on challenges of facing the 49ers offense, role with the team

San Francisco 49ers assistant head coach Brandon Staley has long admired Kyle Shanahan and his team from afar. When given the opportunity to join Shanahan's coaching staff this offseason, he eagerly accepted.
Staley spent a season in the NFC West as the defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, so he knows firsthand how challenging it is to play against a Shanahan-led offense. Now, instead of strategizing against the 49ers' playmakers, he will help evolve the team and contribute to their quest for that elusive Super Bowl title.
One player Staley is relieved to have on his side is running back Christian McCaffrey, whom the 49ers traded for in 2022.
"Well, Christian, he's one of the toughest covers in the league," Staley told reporters on

Due to this dispute, the only senior wideout to show up for OTAs was Deebo Samuel, who led a young group of pass-catchers including first-round draft pick Ricky Pearsall.
Digesting some of the OTA reports, along with some late-Saturday Youtube browsing of particular highlights, got me thinking about the two wideouts who seem to have been largely forgotten by 49ers fans amid the Brandon Aiyuk and draft noise, that being the aforementioned Samuel and the (like Aiyuk) absent restricted free agent Jauan Jennings.

Can the 49ers dethrone the Chiefs next season?

NFL Media columnist Jeffri Chadiha recently assessed the potential championship contenders for the upcoming season, ranking teams based on their likelihood to challenge the reigning Kansas City Chiefs and halt their quest for a historic third consecutive Super Bowl victory.
At the top of Chadiha's list are the San Francisco 49ers, last season's Super Bowl runner-up. Four quarters wasn't enough in February's NFL title game to knock off Kyle Shanahan's squad, but quarterback Patrick Mahomes managed to clinch victory in overtime.
"The Chiefs have won two of their most recent Super Bowls at the expense of the 49ers --
