According to Nick Wagoner of ESPN, Trent Williams returned to practice on Thursday after receiving Wednesday off to rest his injured ankle. The San Francisco 49ers offensive tackle suffered the injury during Sunday night's win over the Los Angeles Rams.

Williams received further tests this week to determine the severity of the injury. On Wednesday, head coach Kyle Shanahan said that the results showed no broken bones nor was the injury a high-ankle sprain. That is good news for the 49ers' veteran offensive lineman.

Here are some other notes from 49ers beat writers at the team facility. They are only allowed to view the first few minutes of practice and aren't permitted to observe team drills.

  • Safety Jaquiski Tartt (groin), running back Raheem Mostert (ankle), and linebacker Kwon Alexander (ankle) did not appear to practice. Mostert and Alexander are expected to miss significant time.
  • Cornerback Dontae Johnson (groin) and running back Jeff Wilson (calf), who were limited on Wednesday, are participating again.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel will be wearing No. 1 the next time he steps onto the football field, leaving behind his No. 19 jersey. It's an unfortunate change for any fan who previously invested in a Deebo jersey—unless they consider it a throwback. Newly signed wide receiver Trent Taylor quickly claimed No. 19 after rejoining the team on a one-year deal following three seasons elsewhere. Taylor last wore No. 15 with the 49ers, a number currently worn by wide receiver Jauan Jennings. Taylor also wore No. 81 with the team. The 49ers' official team site has listed the jersey numbers for several of the team's free-agent newcomers (and Maliek Collins, acquired via a
