49ers sign DL B.J. McBryde to 2-yr deal

Jul 29, 2016 at 4:41 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of DL B.J. McBryde to a two-year deal on Friday.

The signing puts the 49ers at the 90-player limit, which means that they will have to make a roster move to make room for OT Anthony Davis once he is fully reinstated from retirement.

McBryde takes the spot of DT Kaleb Ramsey, who retired from the NFL on Thursday.

The team provided the following information about McBryde on their official website:

McBryde (6-5, 292) originally signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2015 and was waived by the team on October 20, 2015. He was then signed to the Green Bay Packers practice squad on November 17, 2015, where he spent the remainder of the season. McBryde signed a Reserve/Future contract with Green Bay on January 19, 2016 and was waived on July 25.

A 24-year-old native of Beaver Falls, PA, McBryde appeared in 30 games (eight starts) in four years at the University of Connecticut (2011-14), and registered 33 tackles and one pass defensed. As a senior in 2014, he played in all 12 games (eight starts) and finished with a career-high 26 tackles.

On July 6th, I gave my initial thoughts on what a Fred Warner extension could potentially look like and just two weeks later, the linebacker signed a massive extension to stay with the 49ers. Warner's five-year deal has a potential value of $95.225 million, including $40.5 million guaranteed. The extension kicks in during the 2022 season, not the upcoming year, keeping Warner's current cap hit the same at a very reasonable $3.636 million. Today, San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch was asked about the contract situation with the team's No. 3 overall pick. Rookie quarterback Trey Lance remains the only unsigned player from the Niners' most recent draft class. "We're sure hopeful that he does (sign soon)," Lynch said. "Sometimes these things -- I just look at our history since we've been here. We've never had a holdout. It always seems to go down to the wire. It's important that he is here. "I think for any rookie, for every player, every rep counts, every meeting counts, but in particular at that position. So we're hopeful and expecting that Trey will be here and certainly know the importance of him being here." 49ers players reported to the team's facilities this morning for
