49ers sign DL B.J. McBryde to 2-yr deal

The San Francisco 49ers announced the signing of DL B.J. McBryde to a two-year deal on Friday.

The signing puts the 49ers at the 90-player limit, which means that they will have to make a roster move to make room for OT Anthony Davis once he is fully reinstated from retirement.

McBryde takes the spot of DT Kaleb Ramsey, who retired from the NFL on Thursday.

The team provided the following information about McBryde on their official website:

McBryde (6-5, 292) originally signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent on May 2, 2015 and was waived by the team on October 20, 2015. He was then signed to the Green Bay Packers practice squad on November 17, 2015, where he spent the remainder of the season. McBryde signed a Reserve/Future contract with Green Bay on January 19, 2016 and was waived on July 25.

A 24-year-old native of Beaver Falls, PA, McBryde appeared in 30 games (eight starts) in four years at the University of Connecticut (2011-14), and registered 33 tackles and one pass defensed. As a senior in 2014, he played in all 12 games (eight starts) and finished with a career-high 26 tackles.

Pro Football Focus recently completed its positional-by-position rankings for all 32 NFL teams. Now, it's time for analyst Anthony Treash to combine everything and determine the league's best overall rosters, ranking each from best to worst. "The list was heavily influenced by the two-year PFF WAR (wins above replacement) of the players who are currently on each roster, but it also had some subjective projection involved for those younger, emerging talents," Treash explained. Obviously, things may change slightly in about a week, but for now, this is where each squad stands in Pro Football Focus' eyes as the league heads into the 2021 NFL

49ers beat writer shares interesting tidbit about Mike Shanahan's draft influence

It's pretty safe to assume that Kyle Shanahan's father, longtime NFL head coach Mike Shanahan, has had at least some influence on the quarterback evaluation process leading up to next week's draft. Maybe even a significant influence. Ultimately, it will be Kyle Shanahan's decision, with input from his father, general manager John Lynch, and other team personnel. Matt Barrows of The Athletic recently answered questions from fans and was asked about Mike Shanahan's influence on the San Francisco 49ers' looming decision. "Put it this way: Earlier this month, I called Mike to talk about his quarterback

Schrager: Potential 49ers target Trey Lance is the smartest QB in the draft

By David Bonilla
Apr 23, 2021

Trey Lance of North Dakota State is a mystery prospect. He has just 17 career collegiate starts and appeared in just one game this past season due to the pandemic — a non-conference win over Central Arkansas. The performance didn't wow anyone, especially considering it followed an impressive sophomore campaign during which he completed 66.9 percent of his passes for 2,786 yards with 28 touchdowns and no interceptions through 16 games. Lance has very little experience but is viewed as having enormous upside. He could very well be the No. 3 overall pick by the San Francisco 49ers. While the betting favorite remains Mac Jones of Alabama, with the draft less than a week away, most would say that a Lance-to-49ers scenario wouldn't be a shock. Honestly, with all of the
