Watch: Eddie DeBartolo, other inductees being told they made it into the HOF

Feb 16, 2016 at 8:04 AM--

NFL Network posted the video of the eight inductees, including former San Francisco 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo, being told for the first time that they made it into the 2016 class for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

It's a fun watch as the eight open their hotel room doors and realize that a dream has just come true.

After purchasing the 49ers in 1977, DeBartolo helped the team to five Super Bowl championships and 16 consecutive seasons of 10 or more wins during his 23 years as owner. The five championships the 49ers won in 14 years remains a record total for a single owner.

Do the San Francisco 49ers know who they're taking with the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft? Possibly, but if they do, they're not going to tell the public before the pick is announced. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch spoke with reporters for around 30 minutes on Monday regarding the upcoming draft, which will begin Thursday evening (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT) in Cleveland, Ohio. The main topic of discussion, of course, was what the 49ers will do at pick 3, and where they stand at this point in the process. There have been reports in recent days that the 49ers have made a decision and that they still are debating their decision, but either way, Shanahan wasn't about to give any hints. "So, do we know exactly who we want? Maybe,

McShay: 49ers made the right choice in drafting Trey Lance

There were a lot of assumptions leading to the 2021 NFL Draft. Many had the San Francisco 49ers selecting Mac Jones of Alabama with the No. 3 overall pick. It would not have been a popular choice among the fanbase. Most preferred Justin Fields of Ohio State and liked the potentially high ceiling of Trey Lance of North Dakota State. After over a month of rampant speculation, Lance ended up being the selection. Based on the quarterbacks head coach Kyle Shanahan has preferred in the past, most analysts felt Jones would be the pick. Was Lance the correct choice? Obviously, we will have to wait a few years to answer that with any assuredness. Fields ended up going to the Chicago Bears and Jones to the New England Patriots. ESPN analyst Todd McShay was

Kyle Shanahan explains how trading up made things easier for the 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers sat at No. 3 for over a month, and even when they were on the clock, no one was 100 percent sure who they were drafting. We knew it would be a quarterback, but which one? Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch remained secretive throughout the whole process. Imagine how under wraps things would have been had they stayed at No. 12. That's why the 49ers traded up. They didn't want to sneak around in the shadows, evaluating quarterbacks and hoping those prospects didn't talk to anyone about the team's intentions. "At 12, you see two guys on tape, like, 'Man, if any of these guys are there, I for sure would take them,'" Shanahan told Rich Eisen during an interview on the Rich Eisen Show. "And you know

Rapoport: Mac Jones not being 49ers pick would be a surprise to many

49ers fans won't find out for sure who their team will be taking at pick three in the 2021 NFL Draft until just after the first round begins on 5 p.m. PT on Thursday. Regardless, NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport believes there is currently a frontrunner for the distinction and that many around the league would be surprised if that frontrunner doesn't turn out to be former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones. Rapoport spoke recently about what he's hearing regarding pick three with 49ers senior reporter Keiana Martin. Among the tidbits he shared was his belief that a frontrunner exists and that the team would like to make sure everyone in the building is happy with the pick before making the final call. "My understanding was there was a leader in the clubhouse and this
