Head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch have insisted that the San Francisco 49ers were interested in Trey Lance since they started scouting this year's rookie quarterback class. For Shanahan, that process started in January after last season ended. The 49ers traded up to the No. 3 overall pick and eventually selected Lance despite most in the media and around the league believing that the target was Mac Jones of Alabama. The 49ers insist that Lance was always the player to beat in their minds. He was the one for whom they made the trade. ESPN's Adam Schefter disputed that

49ers-Eagles: Goal line stand turns the tide after shaky 49ers start

If there was one significant turning point in the San Francisco 49ers' 17-11 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, it was most likely the unexpected goal line stand members of the defense produced after a 91-yard pass put their backs against the wall in the second quarter. Down 3-0 to the Eagles with just over seven minutes remaining in the half, the 49ers had a long field behind them after a punt from Mitch Wishnowsky pinned the Eagles at their own three-yard line. But on the first play after the punt, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts went deep for wide receiver Quez Watkins, who went for 91 yards before being brought down by safety Jaquiski Tartt and cornerback Deommodore Lenoir at the 49ers' six-yard line. A pass interference call on cornerback Josh Norman two plays

ESPN predicts 49ers' Kyle Shanahan as Coach of the Year based on NFL feedback

This could be an interesting year for San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan. He has just one winning record in his four seasons with the team. Many will argue that last season was a fluke. It was a six-win campaign marred by a historic number of injuries. The team had just come off a Super Bowl appearance, but the injuries completely transformed the roster by Week 2. Most expect the 2021 49ers to more resemble their 2019 counterparts than last season's version. And now, Shanahan has a new toy to feature in his offense—No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance. Lance won't start. That job belongs to veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. Lance will see the field,

ESPN predicts big things for 49ers' Dee Ford, Brandon Aiyuk, sees Trey Lance starting by Week 11

Some wondered if Dee Ford would ever take another NFL snap after a back injury sidelined the veteran pass rusher for all but one game last season. Today, Ford feels healthy, and he's ready to show everyone why the San Francisco 49ers surrendered a second-round draft pick for him in 2019. Ford's recovery this offseason has been a pleasant surprise, and the defender could be primed for a bounceback campaign. That's what ESPN's Nick Wagoner is predicting. "But Ford has slowly been rounding back into form in training camp, and showed his usual burst off the edge," wrote Wagoner as part of ESPN's most-recent Football Power
