Today, the San Francisco 49ers waived Australian rugby league star Jarryd Hayne, who has been playing running back with the team.
To take his spot, the team promoted RB Kendall Gaskins to the 53-man roster.
The team likely hopes that Hayne will clear waivers and sign with the team's practice squad. He left a phenomenal career in the Australian rugby league to pursue his NFL dream and battled all offseason to make the team.
Hayne had 25 yards on eight carries this season. He averaged 9.5 yards per return on special teams.
Gaskins, who will wear No. 30, is likely to be active for Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams. RB Carlos Hyde will miss an undetermined amount of time with a stress fracture in his foot.
Reggie Bush, Mike Davis, and now Kendall Gaskins are the only healthy running backs on the active roster.
Was it a good idea to waive Jarryd Hayne in favor of Kendall Gaskins?
