Head coach Jim Tomsula announced today that the San Francisco 49ers have signed OLB Shawn Lemon. He had worked out for the team and the 49ers decided to sign him.

Lemon has played in the CFL, the Arena Football League, and most recently been part of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who he signed with back in January.

In the CFL, he had 66 tackles, 22 sacks and three forced fumbles over his career in the league. Lemon played college football at Akron.

The signing comes just one day after the release of star linebacker Aldon Smith following his Thursday night arrest.

Pro Football Focus continues its positional ranking leading to the 2021 season and published the lists for the top 32 tight ends, wide receivers, and running backs. The San Francisco 49ers are represented in two of the rankings. The glaring absence is within the ranking of the top 32 running backs. No 49ers ball-carrier is considered a top-32 talent. It is worth noting that all three of these rankings were initially released in May (here and here) but appear
