49ers sign OLB Shawn Lemon

Head coach Jim Tomsula announced today that the San Francisco 49ers have signed OLB Shawn Lemon. He had worked out for the team and the 49ers decided to sign him.
Lemon has played in the CFL, the Arena Football League, and most recently been part of the Pittsburgh Steelers, who he signed with back in January.
In the CFL, he had 66 tackles, 22 sacks and three forced fumbles over his career in the league. Lemon played college football at Akron.
The signing comes just one day after the release of star linebacker Aldon Smith following his Thursday night arrest.

The San Francisco 49ers announced that the team has signed former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Nate Sudfeld to a one-year deal.
The Washington Football Team made Sudfeld a sixth-round selection out of Indiana in 2016. He signed with the Eagles practice squad before the 2017 season. Sudfeld completed five-of-12 attempts (41.7 percent) for 32 yards and an interception in one game with the Eagles last season, per NFL.com.
San Francisco now has four quarterbacks on its roster. They are Jimmy Garoppolo, Josh Rosen, Josh Johnson, and now Sudfeld. The team is expected to draft a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick, which they acquired on March 26 via a trade with the Miami Dolphins.
Sudfeld, 27, has completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 188 yards

The Chicago Bears have signed former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin, per a report from Adam Schefter of ESPN.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is set to earn about $25 million this year. Whomever they pick at No. 3 overall will have a cap hit of about $6.2 million in 2021, per OverTheCap.com. If the gap between the two players isn't seen as great—and a lot of that may depend on actually getting the rookie into the building and seeing how fast he can progress—that could accelerate the plan to part ways with Garoppolo.
Maybe something happens before the draft. Maybe it happens during, after, or even next year. For now, the 49ers sound comfortable keeping Garoppolo around for another season while their rookie quarterback sits and learns. It's a prudent plan considering the roster is built to compete for a championship right now.
