San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula said that linebacker Aldon Smith would be held out of today's practice. The 49ers are holding their second day of mandatory minicamp today at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.
Tomsula stated that had this been a game day, Smith would be playing.
Yesterday, Smith injured toe when someone stepped on his right foot during practice. He watched the second half of practice from the sideline while Corey Lemonier filled in at linebacker.
Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee said that Smith appeared to be walking with a slight limp, but did not seem too concerned about the injury.

Vic Fangio on hand for 49ers' rookie minicamp; Trey Lance stops by to observe
In February, Vic Fangio met with the San Francisco 49ers, and some felt he might join the team as a consultant for the 2022 season. However, it was later reported that the longtime coach would be taking a year off.
Fangio served as the 49ers' defensive coordinator from 2011-14 before serving in the same role with the Chicago Bears (2015-18) and then the Denver Broncos head coach (2019-21). San Francisco looked to bring Fangio back when Kyle Shanahan became the head coach in 2017, but Fangio couldn't get out of his contract with the Bears.

The San Francisco 49ers had their first day of rookie minicamp on Friday, in which the drills consisted of primarily 7-on-7s, as there was a lack of available offensive and defensive lineman for 11-on-11s.
While there isn't normally much to take away from the first day of drills, here are three encouraging reports from Friday's start to rookie minicamp.
1. Danny Gray impresses
Gray, a third-round selection in last month's NFL Draft, was reportedly the best player at minicamp, and it wasn't close.
Gray showcased his speed on a number of occasions in 7-on-7s, including a near 50-yard touchdown catch when he got behind fellow rookie Tariq Castro-Fields in coverage for the score.
While Gray had a dropped pass, which was
First look at 49ers rookies on the practice field
The San Francisco 49ers kicked off a three-day rookie minicamp this afternoon. It's the first time players from the team's latest draft class have been able to suit up and get on the practice field, including defensive lineman Drake Jackson, running back Ty Davis-Price, and wide receiver Danny Gray.
David Lombardi of The Athletic shared some videos of the rookie draft class going through their first practice in red and gold.

49ers rookie Danny Gray did this after dropping a deep pass during practice
Like many NFL players, rookie wide receiver Danny Gray strives for perfection. Unfortunately, no one can be perfect. For a quarterback, it's easy to dwell on that off-target throw. Maybe it's that football that slipped out of your grip for a running back. For a cornerback, that near-interception that bounced off your eager hands.
For a wide receiver, it's that big-play throw that you couldn't haul in.
That's what happened to Gray on Friday afternoon during the San Francisco 49ers' first practice of a three-day rookie minicamp. While others might try to push the slip-up out of their minds and focus on the next rep. Not Gray.
According to Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle, the rookie wideout fell to the ground and paid penance with 10
