Aldon Smith will be held out of today’s minicamp practice

San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula said that linebacker Aldon Smith would be held out of today's practice. The 49ers are holding their second day of mandatory minicamp today at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.

Tomsula stated that had this been a game day, Smith would be playing.

Yesterday, Smith injured toe when someone stepped on his right foot during practice. He watched the second half of practice from the sideline while Corey Lemonier filled in at linebacker.

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee said that Smith appeared to be walking with a slight limp, but did not seem too concerned about the injury.

Nate Davis of USA TODAY released his annual NFL predictions this week, and San Francisco 49ers fans might wonder how the national reporter feels the league's toughest division, the NFC West, will pan out. San Francisco is coming off a disappointing injury-plagued six-win campaign. It was the third losing season in head coach Kyle Shanahan's four years with the team, and the 49ers hope 2020, not their 2019 campaign that ended with a Super Bowl appearance, is the aberration. Most expect the 49ers to be much improved in 2021, assuming the team can stay relatively healthy. San Francisco

Limited: DE Nick Bosa (knee) DE Dee Ford (neck, back) WR Jalen Hurd (knee) DT Javon Kinlaw (knee) Head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after practice that the 49ers are being careful with defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, who underwent a clean-up procedure in his knee after last season and, more recently, a minor procedure to reduce swelling. He did not participate in team drills today, and the team will continue to ease him into on-field work. Nick Bosa, who missed most of last season due to a torn ACL, looks leaner. The pass

Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw was among the players not on the field for team drills when the San Francisco 49ers conducted their first training camp practice earlier today. The team plans to ease him back into a normal workload after the second-year defender underwent multiple procedures on his knee this offseason. Kinlaw had what was described as a "clean-up procedure" performed on his knee following last season. More recently, he underwent a minor procedure to reduce some swelling in the knee. Unfortunately, that limited what he could do during practice today. "He had, traveling and stuff like a month ago or something, [his knee] just swelled up a little bit," Shanahan told reporters after practice. "I don't know whether they drained it or not. I'll get it
