Why Baldinger says the 49ers should avoid signing Tom Brady

By David Bonilla
Jan 31

After watching injury after injury devastate the San Francisco 49ers quarterback room this season, several fans on social media are willing to see what adding a veteran like Tom Brady might do to improve the team's outlook. If you don't count the four games he was suspended in 2016, Brady has started every game in all but one season since 2002. Meanwhile, Kyle Shanahan has started six different quarterbacks since becoming the 49ers' head coach in 2017. Unfortunately, he can't seem to keep his signal callers healthy. Of course, there is also a very vocal group of fans against a potential Brady signing. Their reasoning is sound. Brady will be 46 years old at the start of the 2023 season. If they can repair the tendon, he'll need six months of recovery time (which is August). If they have to replace it (Tommy John surgery), it will be decidedly longer. Trey Lance says he is three to four weeks from being cleared to practice, and that he should be 100% by OTAs (organized team activities). Trent Williams was walking with a crutch on Tuesday (locker cleanout day) and had a walking boot on. But he said it's nothing. DeMeco Ryans was hired to be the next head coach of the Houston Texans. Tom Brady announced his retirement Wednesday morning, so those hoping he

Will Jake Brendel be the Center of Attention for the 49ers?

By Wayne P. Brown
Feb 4

San Francisco 49ers center Jake Brendel went from being undrafted to the starting center of the 49ers. He ranked 11th in blocking amongst 50 centers in NFL, per Pro Football Focus. In his first entire season as a starter, Brendel has given up 14 pressures (one sack, three hits, and ten hurries). He had the opportunity of snapping the ball to not one, not two, not three, but four quarterbacks during the same season. Jake is unique, memorable, and, most important, a trustworthy person to have on a championship team. Brendel will become one of the 23 unrestricted free agents for the San Francisco 49ers. In his most recent interview, he stated that he has a family and is ready to take on free agency. "You still got to hit free agency and see what that is, and I have
