Justin Fields to throw again for NFL teams on April 14; 49ers expected to attend
By David Bonilla

Much was said of San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's absences from Ohio State's pro day last week. Instead of traveling to Columbus to watch quarterback Justin Fields, a candidate to be drafted with the team's No. 3 overall pick, the duo was in Tuscaloosa for Alabama's pro day, watching Mac Jones.
Why Jones over Fields?
"[Just] talking with Fields' agent [David Mulugheta] and everything, we'll get another one from him too," Shanahan explained last week, per Kirk Larrabee. "So we'll be able to see him. That kind of made it an easy decision."
According to Fields' agent, that next opportunity will come on

Breer: Don't buy the pre-draft hype; 49ers keeping QB evaluations 'close to the vest'
By David Bonilla

Mac Jones to the San Francisco 49ers is a done deal, right? That's what every analyst and evaluator would have you believe. Much of that originated from NBC Sports analyst Chris Simms, a close friend of head coach Kyle Shanahan, stating that he believes the 49ers traded up to the No. 3 spot to draft Jones.
Shanahan debunked that last week. Not the idea that Jones might be the pick, but that Simms might have some insight into the team's plans.
"Trust me, Chris talks about everything," Shanahan said. "Therefore, I haven't been able to talk to him in a couple of years. Anyone who you're friends with who speaks in the media, and people think you're friends with them, that means you're not allowed to tell them anything. That's why he doesn't even ask me stuff. Because

Jason Verrett on re-signing with 49ers: 'My heart was always with San Fran'
By David Bonilla

Jason Verrett enjoyed dipping his toes into the free-agency waters. The veteran cornerback ended up re-signing with the San Francisco 49ers on a one-year deal, but it wasn't due to a lack of interest from other teams. He opted to bet on himself again, as he did last offseason, and prove to skeptics that he can stay healthy while playing at a high level.
It also feels good to stay with something familiar.
"[Free agency] was a good experience," Verrett told reporters via Zoom on Monday. "It always feels good to be wanted, but my heart was always with San Fran. I love the comradely we've got with the team, the coaches, staff, training staff, the amazing fans, the whole nine yards. I was happy that we [were] able to get a deal done, and I'm just excited to see what

Jason Verrett, teammates trust Jimmy Garoppolo, but believe in 49ers front office

Unless you stay off of social media, as Jimmy Garoppolo does, it's tough to escape all of the speculation surrounding the San Francisco 49ers quarterback's future. Garoppolo remains the favorite to be the Week 1 starter. Beyond 2021, though, who knows?
San Francisco recently traded away several valuable draft picks, including multiple first-rounders, to move up to the No. 3 spot for the opportunity to acquire a quarterback of the future. The team obviously sees a potential upgrade in at least one option between Justin Fields, Trey Lance, or Mac Jones. However, Garoppolo remains in the team's plans for this season, allowing a rookie the luxury of sitting and learning behind a veteran.
