Defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw was among the players not on the field for team drills when the San Francisco 49ers conducted their first training camp practice earlier today. The team plans to ease him back into a normal workload after the second-year defender underwent multiple procedures on his knee this offseason. Kinlaw had what was described as a "clean-up procedure" performed on his knee following last season. More recently, he underwent a minor procedure to reduce some swelling in the knee. Unfortunately, that limited what he could do during practice today. "He had, traveling and stuff like a month ago or something, [his knee] just swelled up a little bit," Shanahan told reporters after practice. "I don't know whether they drained it or not. Trey Lance may well find himself as the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers before the season's out, but he clearly won't be starting training camp that way based on what head coach Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday. The 49ers obviously plan on Lance eventually being the starter over incumbent Jimmy Garoppolo after trading up to select him with the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. But as of now, the job remains Garoppolo's to lose. "There's no open competition right now in terms of they're getting equal reps with the same group," Shanahan told reporters Tuesday, one day before the start of camp. "Jimmy's coming in as the one and Trey's coming in as the two." Lance

The San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback is preparing to enter his first NFL training camp and hopes to show off how his hard work in the past month has led to improvement. During the players' time off, several videos surfaced of Lance taking part in throwing sessions, taking what he learned from the offseason program to sharpen his skills. One of the players Lance threw to last month is teammate Mohamed Sanu. The two also worked out together in Southern California. The wide receiver hopes to make his

49ers LB Fred Warner says his goals remain set to the 'highest standard'

Fred Warner was overwhelmed by over 200 text messages and calls from friends and colleagues on Wednesday when news broke that the San Francisco 49ers were signing him to a massive five-year extension, making him the highest-paid linebacker in the NFL. The newfound riches won't change his attitude, though. Instead, Warner will continue working to earn the respect of his peers and do whatever he can to contribute to the team goal of winning a championship. "My goals and aspirations are always going to be set to the highest standard, higher than anybody else can put on me," Warner told reporters on Thursday. "And that holds true to the season, even before this contract was set and done. My (personal) goals and my goals for this team, they don't change. So that's what's exciting,
