Darrelle Revis signs with 1-year deal with New England Patriots

Mar 12, 2014 at 5:36 PM--

For those of you that were holding onto the possibility of landing free agent cornerback Darrelle Revis, no matter how implausible it seemed, forget about it.

According to ESPN, Revis and the New England Patriots have reached agreement on a one-year, $12 million deal. This will be Revis' third team in three years.

With the signing, the Patriots land the best free agent available this offseason after the Denver Broncos made headlines with their defensive acquisitions.

There were no reports that the San Francisco 49ers even made an attempt to acquire Revis in a trade or once he was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The San Francisco 49ers were elated. They entered the playoffs as a Wild Card team and had just knocked off the NFC East champion Dallas Cowboys on their home turf. As tackle Trent Williams walked off the field at AT&T Stadium, he noticed two Cowboys fans gesturing at him, and they weren't gestures of congratulations. All Williams thought to do was point and laugh. Photographer Cooper Neill captured the moment. This photo of Trent Williams and Cowboys fans should be in the Hall of Fame 😭😭📸 @CooperNeill
