Pickett traded? Or a goof by the Houston Chronicle?

Jul 27, 2006 at 3:00 PM--

Today, the Houston Chronicle stated that the Houston Texans had acquired quarterback Cody Pickett via a trade. The only problem is that they said that it was the Tampa Bay Bucanneers that had traded him. Cody Pickett is a member of the San Francisco 49ers.

So, this makes you wonder what the error was. Did they mean to say Tim Rattay instead of Pickett or did they mean to say the San Francisco 49ers instead of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? They did mention that Pickett had played in six games and started two for the San Francisco 49ers.

From the Houston Chronicle:
On the day the Texans reported for their first training camp under new coach Gary Kubiak , they acquired veteran quarterback Cody Pickett from the Tampa Bay Bucanneers in exchange for an undisclosed draft choice.

Kubiak wanted another veteran quarterback to join David Carr and Sage Rosenfels. The first-year head coach said if Carr or Rosenfels were injured, he didn't want to be left with only one veteran on the roster.

Prior to acquiring Pickett, rookies Matt Baker and Quinton Porter were the only other quarterbacks on the roster.

Pickett has played in six NFL games, all with the San Francisco 49ers. Both of Pickett's career starts came in 2005 with the 49ers.

49ers insider: If Brandon Aiyuk is traded, it will be before the draft

By David Bonilla

Brandon Aiyuk appears open to the possibility of playing elsewhere in 2024. If the San Francisco 49ers can't negotiate a favorable long-term deal with their star receiver, he knows someone else will. However, the 49ers primarily aim to retain Aiyuk for the long haul. The team exercised the fifth-year option on his contract but seeks to secure an extension before he retakes the field. General manager John Lynch recently praised Aiyuk, calling him one of his "favorite guys around the building." "He's a competitor. He's a warrior," Lynch added. "He plays with such physicality, also with grace, in the way some of the positions his body can get into. And then he's got a flair

OverTheCap.com has revealed the contract information for both deals. Feliciano signed a contract that includes the minimum base salary for a player with eight accrued seasons of experience—$1.21 million. Flannigan-Fowles' base salary is slightly higher, at about $1.77 million. Feliciano is scheduled to count about $2.28 million against the 2024 salary cap, while Flannigan-Fowles is slated to consume almost $1.3 million. The linebacker's reduced impact is due to the 49ers using a portion of up to $1.45 million of salary that won't count against the salary cap for veteran players. The 49ers are paying Feliciano a
