DeMeco Ryans on why Javon Kinlaw could be key to 49ers defense's success

By David Bonilla

Last week, San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans identified three things defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw needed to work on in preparation for his third NFL season: technique, technique, technique. Kinlaw is returning after undergoing season-ending reconstructive surgery to repair his ACL last year. To this point, the former No. 14 overall pick's contributions have been underwhelming. That could change in 2022, though. Kinlaw has put in the work during his recover, and as the 49ers ramp up his training camp workload, many feel that the defender could be on the cusp of becoming a dominant force for the defensive front. "I think Javon, he's

A day after fans learned that Jimmie Ward had been named to the NFL Top 100 Players for the first time, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that the safety is dealing with a significant hamstring injury. The setback has put his availability for the team's Week 1 showdown with the Chicago Bears in doubt. "Yesterday, Jimmie Ward pulled his hamstring," Shanahan said. "A little worse than the other guys so he's going to be [out] some time." Shanahan notes that the 49ers have several options to fill in for Ward, should he miss time. That includes Tarvarius Moore, George Odum, and others. The team might even add someone to the defensive backfield for

The 49ers cut things fairly short when it came to post-practice media sessions on Saturday, but that doesn't mean there weren't any items of interest to pass along. Quarterback Trey Lance and rookie wide receiver Danny Gray were the only players to speak to reporters after practice on Saturday, and each of them talked about a number of topics. Lance spoke about what he's seen from a number of veterans and young players on offense, while Gray discussed where he is in his development since being selected by the 49ers in Round 3 of the 2022 NFL Draft. And there was another rookie on Saturday who put on a memorable show at practice, albeit in a unique way. Here's a rundown of what was discussed Saturday afternoon. * Welcome back
