49ers have remarkable turnaround in once-problematic area
By Rohan Chakravarthi

The San Francisco 49ers have been one of the most well-rounded teams over the past few seasons, being one of the few franchises to compile top-ten offenses and defenses in 2019, 2021, and 2022.
However, one area that has struggled for the 49ers has been their special teams unit, which caused San Francisco to switch coordinators from Richard Hightower to Brian Schneider in 2022.
Well, that issue may not be an issue anymore, as the 49ers are ranked seventh in special-teams DVOA, according to Akash Anavaranthan, making them the lone team in the NFL that has top-seven marks all in three aspects of the

The San Francisco 49ers defeated the New York Giants in Week 3 to the tune of 30-12, with quarterback Brock Purdy throwing for over 300 yards for the first time this season, despite facing a unique defensive approach from defensive coordinator Wink Martindale.

It was a night that saw wide receiver Deebo Samuel declare himself as officially out of "awful" mode, running back Christian McCaffrey reach milestones, wide receiver Ronnie Bell create some lasting memories, and -- of all things -- Andrew Luck making a return to an NFL field (in full Civil War costume) to take part in a game of trivia.
Let's recap all that and more in this version of 49ers Notebook.
Not awful anymore
Back in June, Deebo Samuel caught some attention with his honest description of his 2022 performance
