Robinson will embrace RB role; Free agent signings

May 1, 2006 at 7:33 AM--

The following is a reprint of yesterday's article with free agent updates:

Ray Fittipaldo, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports San Francisco 49ers RB Michael Robinson said he will embrace his role as a running back.

Robinson added, "I won't resist the chance because I understand the way the world works. I think for you to be successful on any level you have to be a football player first. You can't just limit yourself to whatever role you want to play." He said he will be used as a third-down running back and a slot guy who would come out of the backfield to do some thing. The team has said they would give him a shot at quarterback.

Free agent signings begin

Right after the NFL Draft, teams scramble to contact players that were not taken during the seven rounds. The 49ers have already started their part.

The Los Angeles Times reports the San Francisco 49ers have agreed to terms with undrafted rookie free agent P Tom Malone (USC).

ScarletKnights.com reports that the 49ers have signed undrafted rookie free agent WR Chris Baker of Rutgers.
