Rumor alert: Lelie leaving Broncos; 49ers interested?

Apr 9, 2006 at 10:37 AM--

Bill Williamson of the Denver Post, reports on rumor making the rounds is the Denver Broncos trading wide receiver Ashley Lelie. Two teams mentioned as potential destinations are the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers. At this point all of the talk is just that, talk. It's unclear if there is any connection between this talk and Lelie's decision to skip the first week of the Broncos' offseason workout program to work out on his own in Arizona. Lelie is entering a contract year and he could leave Denver as a free agent after the 2006 season.

Lelie has spent the past 4 seasons with the Denver Broncos, played in 64 games and catched 168 passes for 3007 yards and 12 touchdowns.

San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans is garnering some interest around the NFL. It was initially reported that the Minnesota Vikings would interview him for their head coaching vacancy this past Wednesday. Schefter adds another team to the mix, saying that the Las Vegas Raiders are also interested in interviewing the 49ers coordinator for their head coaching

There's a lot to unpack from Saturday night's memorable 13-10 win for the San Francisco 49ers over the Green Bay Packers, but some of the biggest news to surface since that game came to an end involves the legendary quarterback the 49ers faced in their latest playoff victory—and the one they could face next week. Keep in mind there are still a lot of unknowns here, including (as of Sunday morning) whether or not the 49ers will even get this opportunity when they battle in the NFC Championship next Sunday (6:40 p.m. ET/3:40 p.m. PT, FOX). But based on what Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers said Saturday night to go with what's been reported about Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady over the past 24 hours, it's not incorrect to say the 49ers could conceivably be the team to

49ers' K'Waun Williams should be a go against the Cowboys

By Chris Beno

In case anyone missed it, the San Francisco 49ers starting slot corner K'Waun Williams opted out of the Week 18 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams because he still wasn't feeling quite right after being on the COVID/Reserve list earlier that week. NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco appeared on KNBR Monday and brought up the fact that Williams was out. "K'waun Williams was on the COVID list, and he just didn't feel right, and he was cleared off the Covid list, so it wasn't that he was held out of the game because of Covid, but he just didn't feel right. Just the worry of the work that he wasn't able to put in heading into that game. So, he should be back." In his place the 49ers started veteran cornerback Dontae Johnson in the slot to cover wide
