49ers among teams pursuing Eric Wright and Brandon Carr

Mar 13, 2012 at 2:52 PM--

Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting that the San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are all pursuing free-agent cornerback Eric Wright.

Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area is saying that a decision is expected in the next 12 hours.

Schefter also reports that the 49ers are pursuing free-agent cornerback Brandon Carr.

Wright, who is 26, played for the Detroit Lions last season and then four years for the Cleveland Browns before that. He has had 323 tackles, 13 interceptions, one touchdown and 3 forced fumbled over his NFL career.

Carr, who is 25, has spent four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs where he has had 237 tackles, 8 interceptions and a forced fumble.

This may signal that the 49ers are willing to let Carlos Rogers walk and are attempting to get younger at the position. Right now, Carr is on his way to visit with the Dallas Cowboys, who will make a strong push for the cornerback.

Ben Standig of The Athletic named the San Francisco 49ers as a team that is interested in wide receiver Jarius Wright while discussing Washington's need for more depth at the position after Kelvin Harmon reportedly suffered a torn ACL. Washington realistically needed more WR depth and now for sure with Harmon down. Jarius Wright makes for an obvious candidate based on ties to Turner/Rivera. Don't know if he's on the short list yet. He is on San Francisco's at least and possibly other teams.— Ben Standig (@BenStandig)
