The Trey Lance Era Is Over (For Now)

By JD Salazar
Sep 19

On Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers did something they've been striving for for over a decade - they dominated the Seattle Seahawks. For the first time since a young Russell Wilson stepped onto the field against Jim Harbaugh's 49ers, San Franciso manhandled, outplayed, and frankly embarrassed the Seahawks. Yet the loss they suffered overshadows everything they accomplished on the field. Trey Lance is out for the season, victim of a gruesome ankle injury that left him weakly attempting to reassure fans with a few laborious hand waves as he was carted off the field. Talk show lines that should have been full of enthusiastic celebration and unmitigated relief at the removal of the Seahawks as a perennial thorn in the 49ers' side are instead thrumming with nervous energy about the

49ers-Broncos: Jimmy Garoppolo still looking to get in game shape, on same page with offensive teammates

Last week, following a 27-7 win over the Seattle Seahawks, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo said that being under center for the 49ers offense after missing the offseason and preseason was "like riding a bike." On Sunday, during a mistake-filled 11-10 loss to the Denver Broncos that saw the offense commit three turnovers and a safety while converting just one of ten third downs, that bike at times looked like it had two flat tires. In his first start since stepping back into the quarterback spot after a season-ending injury to Trey Lance, Garoppolo finished 18-of-29 with 211 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also stepped out of the end

49ers Twitter and Facebook are melting down. All it took was one ugly loss, and many fans have already turned on the coaching staff, and the young quarterback, while declaring the season over. It's funny and annoying altogether. It's also way too early for any of that. This week, considering the frustration that many fans were experiencing, we decided to not only answer questions in this mailbag, but also give fans the chance to vent. Several did. But we only have room for so many. So here we go. Let's get to the mailbag. Does it seem that when the defense crumbles it's because of a needless penalty by Greenlaw? How many more are acceptable before a change is made? - Niner Jim The defense was dominant in the first half. And for the

49ers Notebook: Ryans, Foerster evaluate rookies; What happened on the Pettis play?; Former Seahawk K.J. Wright slams 49ers QB situation

By Kirk Larrabee
Sep 15

There's still much to discuss (and much to move on from) when it comes to the 49ers' Week 1 loss to the Chicago Bears, and on Thursday it was time for defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans and offensive line coach/run game coordinator Chris Foerster to offer their perspectives on what went right and what went wrong last Sunday. Ryans gave some thoughts on the performance of a couple key defensive linemen, while each coach gave their evaluation of the rookies on their side of the ball that got significant playing time. Ryans also talked about the touchdown pass from Bears quarterback Justin Fields to former 49ers receiver Dante Pettis and what his players did incorrectly on the play. There were also a couple noteworthy quotes to come from the radio airwaves, in
