When the question arose during 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch's predraft press conference of whether or not quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo would still be on the 49ers roster at the end of this week, Shanahan at first gave a very unusual and cryptic answer. Shanahan and Lynch were asked directly early in Monday's press conference if they could guarantee Garoppolo would remain with the team through Sunday, given the fact they intend to draft his eventual replacement with the third overall pick in this week's NFL Draft. Shanahan answered in the negative -- in his own, unique way. A report surfaced yesterday stating that the New England Patriots were preparing a new contract for Jimmy Garoppolo — just in case the San Francisco 49ers decided to trade the veteran quarterback. Another report stated that the expectation around the league is that the Niners would try to move Garoppolo before or during the draft, which kicks off tonight. This follows increased chatter around the league that San Francisco is leaning toward drafting Lance rather than Jones or Fields. Over the weekend, Fields had reportedly been eliminated as a contender. MyBookie odds for the No. 3

Trey Lance will hear his name called on Thursday night. San Francisco 49ers fans are eager to know if their favorite team will call the quarterback's name. Rich Eisen is also very interested to know where Lance is headed and grilled the former Bison about his interactions with the Niners. "How are your Zooms with the 49ers, Trey?" Eisen came out and asked the quarterback during The Rich Eisen Show. "I actually ... um," Lance said before pausing, as if he were carefully choosing his next words. "They've been going well," he continued. "I haven't had any more with them than I've had with any other team. But definitely looking forward to [the draft], like said, finding out where I'm going to be. I wish I knew, just as much as you do. Probably
