"We've been our own worst enemy": Kyle Shanahan on how the 49ers can rebound from 3-game skid

By Marc Adams

The San Francisco 49ers self-scouted themselves during the bye week. What are the areas they saw that require improvement to snap their three-game losing streak? "There isn't one specific [area]," Shanahan told Greg Papa during a segment for NBC Sports Bay Area. "We need to get better all over because it hasn't just been, 'Hey, we're doing this bad. We're doing this good.' We've been up and down at everything, and if you even look at the numbers, we're kind of middle of the pack everywhere. And that's why the majority of this league is sitting at 2-3, 3-2, right there. And where are you going to go from there? "My biggest thing on what we need to do to get better is, I think you've heard our players say it a lot, but I keep talking to them about, 'Which team is

49ers' Jimmy Garoppolo on calf injury: 'I feel it, but it's not hindering me at all'

Jimmy Garoppolo missed Week 5 with a calf injury suffered a week earlier. He returned on Sunday night against the Indianapolis Colts but delivered a sloppy performance on a rain-soaked Levi's Stadium field. Garoppolo finished the game 16-of-27 for 181 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. While the outing looked like it might be enough to tempt the 49ers to at least consider a quarterback change this week, head coach Kyle Shanahan said he "would guess" Garoppolo remains the starter. It wasn't exactly a confidence-inspiring response. Garoppolo admits that his calf isn't at 100 percent yet, but the quarterback didn't use the injury as an excuse

The San Francisco 49ers have lost three consecutive games and look to turn their season around on Sunday night against the Indianapolis Colts. At 2-3, the team finds itself looking up at the division-leading Arizona Cardinals (6-0) and Los Angeles Rams (5-1). The Niners have lost to the Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks and have yet to play the Rams. Williams says there is no panic in the building. The team knows the locker room is talented enough to rebound on its own. "We're not waiting for somebody to walk through the door," Williams told reporters after today's practice. "We've got all the talent we need in-house. ... We've just got to put it all together on Sunday." San Francisco still has four division matchups remaining. There remains a chance

49ers-Colts: Kyle Shanahan optimistic Jimmy Garoppolo will play; Trey Lance may have to wait a week

By David Bonilla

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters before today's practice. He informed the media that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo would be practicing but be limited. Rookie Trey Lance won't practice as he continues to recover from his injury. "It will be good to go out there and be full-go today," Shanahan said of Garoppolo. "I know he's limited because we've got to make sure he can do everything. We'll have a much better idea today, but I'm pretty optimistic about it." Garoppolo is returning from a calf injury suffered in a game against the Seattle Seahawks on October 3. Lance replaced the veteran quarterback in the game and then started the following weekend against the Arizona Cardinals, sustaining a knee sprain. The rookie quarterback's
