All 49ers draft picks have been signed

Jul 28, 2011 at 8:22 AM--

According to numerous sources, the San Francisco 49ers have signed all of their 2011 Draft selections. All ten of the selections were ready to go when the team opened camp today at 8 AM.

This is great news, especially at quarterback. Colin Kaepernick is the only quarterback currently under contract since Alex Smith cannot sign his contract until tomorrow at 3 PM, David Carr has been informed that he will be released, and Jeremiah Masoli has been listed as a running back by the team.

Schefter: Commanders were set to send multiple picks to 49ers for Jimmy Garoppolo before surgery nixed deal

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch never named the specific teams expressing interest in Jimmy Garoppolo earlier in the offseason. Last week, ESPN's Tim Keown and Nick Wagoner revealed that the Niners expected the quarterback to be shipped to the Washington Commanders, an option that evaporated when Garoppolo opted to undergo shoulder surgery. Today, ESPN's Adam Schefter revealed some more minor tidbits about the trade that never happened. "The deal would have involved multiple draft picks, according to sources," Schefter wrote, "but was disrupted by the surgery to Garoppolo's throwing shoulder, which prompted the Commanders to move on from their

Have Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch mismanaged the 49ers QB situation?

The San Francisco 49ers plan was set. Draft a young quarterback who would eventually replace Jimmy Garoppolo. The young draftee would be able to sit and learn under the veteran Garoppolo, and then take over in 2022. But things haven't exactly gone according to plan, and on Sunday, the plan imploded when Trey Lance broke his ankle—an injury that will cost him the remainder of the 2022 season. Much has been made about how well (or poorly) Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch have managed the 49ers quarterbacks. I've seen many fans and media blaming Shanahan for the current situation. Many have criticized the duo for how messy the QB situation has been since trading away two first-round round picks, and swapping another first-round pick, to draft a quarterback. Have

George Kittle explains why 49ers are fortunate to still have Jimmy Garoppolo

The San Francisco 49ers feel fortunate right now. After spending all offseason trying to get rid of Jimmy Garoppolo and not finding a trade partner, the team signed the quarterback to a restructured one-year deal to serve as Trey Lance's backup. The Niners likely hoped a trade partner would emerge later in the season—a destination Garoppolo would have approved, voiding his no-trade clause. San Francisco getting stuck with Garoppolo turned out to be a blessing. Lance broke his ankle five quarters into the season and was lost for the season. Enter Garoppolo; the one-time castoff turned savior. It's like 2021 again. The veteran quarterback received all the practice reps this week and will make his first start of the season on Sunday night against
