Rapoport: 49ers DC Robert Saleh 'headed in the right direction' to become Jets head coach

By David Bonilla
Jan 13, 2021

Robert Saleh Watch 2021 continues. The San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator continues to meet in-person with the New York Jets, and NFL insider Ian Rapoport believes the writing is on the wall for the assistant to become the team's next head coach (h/t to Patrick Tulini). Rapoport joined NFL Network this morning and reported that Saleh remains "in the building" meeting with Jets owner Christopher Johnson and others. As of right now, the only player from the secondary to play significant minutes who is not a pending free agent is free safety Jimmie Ward. Here's a list of the players from the secondary who played at least 100 snaps in 2020 but would have to get new contracts if they were to play for the 49ers again: Richard Sherman, Jason Verrett, Jaquiski Tartt, K'Waun Williams, Emmanuel Moseley, Akhello Witherspoon, Marcell Harris, Dontae Johnson, Jamar Taylor. Only one of these is not an unrestricted free agent. Moseley is an exclusive restricted free agent, meaning the 49ers will be able to re-sign him if they choose to. As long as the 49ers offer him a league minimum contract, Moseley is
