San Francisco 49ers offensive line coach and run game coordinator Chris Foerster expects his starting offensive line to see action during Saturday's preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans. That lineup includes rookie guard Dominick Puni, who may get even more playing time.
Puni has been receiving significant practice reps in training camp due to injuries along the offensive line. The rookie has impressed, and the coaching staff is eager to see how he performs in a game setting.
"Obviously, Puni's going to play," Foerster told reporters ahead of Thursday's practice, the last one before this weekend's game. "I think he's going to play some extended time. In my opinion, he should. But we'll make that evaluation as a staff and make sure. I'll make my recommendations, which I think he should play.
"I don't know how much that's going to end up being, but we'll take a good look at it and see. But he needs some playing time. It would be good for him to go against other people and it'll be great for him."
San Francisco made Puni a third-round pick (No. 86 overall) out of Kansas after trading up eight spots to select the offensive lineman.
