Former Raiders executive Amy Trask has apologized for the tone of her criticism directed at San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy as NFL teams entered the Divisional Playoffs.
Trask faced backlash for her remarks on the "What the Football" podcast, where she assessed the remaining quarterbacks in the playoffs, stating, "Four games, eight quarterbacks. Seven terrific quarterbacks and Brock Purdy."
Trask believed Purdy was the weakest among the eight quarterbacks in the playoffs, clarifying, "It's not that I don't like him. It's not that I dislike him. He does things very well. He is surrounded by a tremendous, tremendous supporting cast, both on offense and defense. He is a good quarterback. I don't put him in the category of the other seven."
Weeks later, Purdy is on the brink of winning a Super Bowl. Only he and Patrick Mahomes remain among the NFL quarterbacks. The 49ers will face the Kansas City Chiefs at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on February 11.
Trask recently apologized for her comments, not for the opinion itself but for how it was shared.
"I've been thinking quite a bit about my comment about [Brock Purdy] - irrespective of the substance of that which I shared (and I've already noted repeatedly that he did what the best do, he got the job done), I shared my thoughts flippantly and rudely and I apologize," Trask shared on social media.
She continued, "The best advice I have ever received is 'to thine own self be true,' and I was not true to myself when I spoke flippantly and rudely and I am sorry that I did - some will still be angry at me for the thoughts I shared, I am apologizing not for them, but to be true to myself."
