The San Francisco 49ers announced two roster moves on Saturday, promoting CB Shemar Jean-Charles and LB Curtis Robinson to the active roster from the team's practice squad. This is the second elevation of the season for both players. Jean-Charles was elevated ahead of the week three game against the New York Giants. Robinson was promoted before the week one game in Pittsburgh.
With LB Dre Greenlaw being listed as questionable with a hamstring injury, the 49ers could use an extra linebacker, particularly on special teams. Robinson, who is in his third year, was named as one of the three scout team players of the week. Robinson recorded a solo tackle in week one.
Greenlaw did not practice all week. So Robinson's elevation could be a sign that Greenlaw won't play on Sunday. If Greenlaw doesn't play, Oren Burks would likely be the one to fill his starting linebacker spot.
Jean-Charles was also one of the scout team players of the week. The third-year pro was a 2021 5th-round draft pick by the Green Bay Packers. This is his first season in San Francisco.
A week ago, the 49ers acquired Randy Gregory in a trade with the Denver Broncos. The 49ers and Broncos are exchanging late-round picks in the 2024 draft, as well. There's been no word on whether or not Gregory will play on Sunday, but 49ers GM John Lynch suggested on Friday that Gregory has a good chance to play.
The 49ers will look to improve to 6-0 on Sunday when they face the Cleveland Browns.
