The San Francisco 49ers have two kickers on their roster—rookie Jake Moody and veteran Zane Gonzalez. Neither is healthy.

Moody, a third-round pick, has been dealing with a right quad strain. Then, before the 49ers' preseason finale against the Los Angeles Chargers, Gonzalez suffered a right calf injury during pre-game warmups.

Neither may be available for Week 1.

"[Moody is] week to week," head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after the game. "Right now, we're hoping that he can have a chance for Week 1. He ended up straining his quad last week in practice, and we'll see how his body reacts to it."

Will the 49ers have to look into signing another kicker in the next two weeks?

"Most likely. And we definitely got to have a plan B for Week 1," Shanahan responded. "Zane could have been that, but he's probably not going to be ready for Week 1, too, looking at what happened to him today."

What about Robbie Gould? The veteran kicker remains available. Could he return to the team?

"I'm sure everyone's a possibility, but that's stuff we haven't discussed yet," Shanahan answered.

The coach also provided the following injury updates from the game:

  • WR Chris Conley suffered a shoulder injury
  • CB A.J. Parker pulled his hamstring
  • The 49ers believe S Tayler Hawkins broke his hand
