According to
Phil Hay of The Athletic, the San Francisco 49ers are set to take over ownership of Leeds United, the professional English football club based in Leeds, West Yorkshire in England.
"Leeds United are finally set for new ownership after talks over the past 24 hours sealed an agreement for Andrea Radrizzani to sell his majority stake in the club to 49ers Enterprises," wrote Hay. "The two sides publicly announced a deal on Friday, allowing 49ers Enterprises to begin the process of officially ratify its long-awaited buy-out.
"The formal completion of its takeover is likely to take a number of weeks while legalities are handled and the group seeks EFL approval of the deal."
Leeds issued the following statement:
"Leeds United can confirm an agreement has been reached between Aser Ventures and 49ers Enterprises for the purchase of the club.
"Both parties continue to work through the details, and further updates will be provided soon. All of our focus remains on a quick return to the Premier League.
"Thank you for your continued support. Marching on Together."
Leeds' current majority shareholder, Andrea Radrizzani, will sell his 56 percent stake in the club to 49ers Enterprises. The current estimated value of Leeds is $213.65 million, a bargain compared to a few weeks ago, before the club was relegated from the Premier League.
"The club's value has dropped sharply as a result of relegation to the Championship," wrote Hay, "leading 49ers Enterprises to commit to an overall valuation of £170m. Had Leeds remained in the top flight, that figure would have been closer to £400m."
Hay reports that 49ers Enterprises president Paraag Marathe, better known to 49ers fans as the team's chief contract negotiator, is expected to take over as chairman of Leeds. He has served as vice-chairman of Leeds since 2021.

The San Francisco 49ers defeated the New York Giants in a Thursday Night Football matchup during Week 3, notching a 30-12 victory in their home opener to improve to 3-0.
San Francisco was dominant in all three areas of the field, consistently leading by two scores due to another strong offensive performance, matched by a defense that held the Giants to just 12 points overall.
Despite the short week, the 49ers earned major contributions from defensive end Nick Bosa, who recorded a sack and six pressures in only 39 snaps due to the Giants' lack of offensive plays.
Bosa's health has been an underrated factor through three weeks, as the defensive end was acclimated heavily in Week 2, playing 63 defensive snaps, which was a significant uptick from Week

The San Francisco 49ers defeated the New York Giants on Thursday Night Football 30-12, improving to 3-0 with a victory in the home opener at Levi's Stadium.
Following a slower-than-expected start due to some quarterback miscues and longer drives, the 49ers settled in, taking a 17-6 lead going into halftime, which improved to 30-12 by the end of the game.
Here are three quick takeaways from the 49ers' 30-12 win over the New York Giants.
2nd half adjustments
For the second consecutive half, it seemed like the 49ers made the proper second-half adjustments defensively, operating with heavier blitzes and more press-man coverage, which resulted in shorter passes from quarterback Daniel Jones, leading to four punts and an interception in the
49ers Notebook: Deebo is no longer "awful"; Ronnie Bell makes a splash; J.J. Watt praises Niners; Captain Andrew Luck makes Levi's cameo
Thursday night was a fun one at Levi's Stadium, where the San Francisco 49ers cruised to a 30-12 victory over the visiting New York Giants. It was a night that saw wide receiver Deebo Samuel declare himself as officially out of "awful" mode, running back Christian McCaffrey reach milestones, wide receiver Ronnie Bell create some lasting memories, and -- of all things -- Andrew Luck making a return to an NFL field (in full Civil War costume) to take part in a game of trivia.
Let's recap all that and more in this version of 49ers Notebook.
