According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston, the San Francisco 49ers plan to work out an XFL quarterback on Wednesday during the second day of the team's mandatory minicamp. That player is Jack Coan of the San Antonio Brahmas.

The Indianapolis Colts signed Coan as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame in 2022. He was waived ahead of the regular season. The Brahmas signed the quarterback following the XFL Draft on November 17, 2022.

San Francisco currently has four quarterbacks on its roster. However, only three are healthy. Brock Purdy is recovering from surgery to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow. Those who will throw this week during practices are Trey Lance, Sam Darnold, and Brandon Allen.

After transferring from Wisconsin, Coan (6-3, 220) appeared in 13 games in 2021 with the Fighting Irish. He completed 65.5 percent of his passes for 3,150 yards with 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions during his final collegiate season.

The 49ers will hold practices on Tuesday and Wednesday and then be off until the start of training camp in late July.

49ers' Kyle Shanahan: Javon Kinlaw's hard work showing up on the film

By David Bonilla
Sep 22

All offseason, San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed confidence in fourth-year defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw despite the team not exercising the player's fifth-year option. It was certainly more confidence than fans had in the former first-round draft pick. Kinlaw had missed 24 games over the past two seasons. He underwent reconstructive knee surgery in 2021. A setback last season forced Kinlaw to miss 11 games. Fans were ready to label the defensive lineman a "bust." Some already had. The defensive lineman just could not stay on the football field. Kinlaw is finally healthy, though, and making his presence known. The defensive tackle is on pace for his best Pro Football Focus grade after an unimpressive first three NFL seasons.

Simpson (1975). Since Week 13 of the 2022 season, McCaffrey has scored a touchdown in 12 straight games, including the postseason. With a touchdown against Arizona on Sunday (1:25 PM PT, FOX), he will become the fourth player since 1990 to record a touchdown in 13 consecutive games, including the

Are 49ers LB Dre Greenlaw's penalties getting out of hand?

By Rohan Chakravarthi
Sep 24

The San Francisco 49ers comfortably won their third straight game to begin the regular season, defeating the New York Giants 30-12 to improve to 3-0. However, for the second consecutive week, linebacker Dre Greenlaw committed a 15-yard penalty that cost the team, which was an issue at times last season due to the aggressiveness of his play. Greenlaw enjoyed a breakout season in 2022 after signing a well-earned 2-year contract extension and cemented himself as the No. 2 linebacker next to Fred Warner. But, after two straight weeks with 15-yard flags, are Greenlaw's penalties getting out of hand? Head coach Kyle Shanahan provided his take on the matter, valuing Greenlaw's aggressiveness, while also pointing out the close nature of both
