According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston, the San Francisco 49ers plan to work out an XFL quarterback on Wednesday during the second day of the team's mandatory minicamp. That player is Jack Coan of the San Antonio Brahmas.
The Indianapolis Colts signed Coan as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame in 2022. He was waived ahead of the regular season. The Brahmas signed the quarterback following the XFL Draft on November 17, 2022.
San Francisco currently has four quarterbacks on its roster. However, only three are healthy.
Brock Purdy is recovering from surgery to repair the torn ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow. Those who will throw this week during practices are Trey Lance,
Sam Darnold, and Brandon Allen.
After transferring from Wisconsin, Coan (6-3, 220) appeared in 13 games in 2021 with the Fighting Irish. He completed 65.5 percent of his passes for 3,150 yards with 25 touchdowns and seven interceptions during his final collegiate season.
The 49ers will hold practices on Tuesday and Wednesday and then be off until the start of training camp in late July.
