On Friday night, Brock Purdy enjoyed a standing ovation at Oracle Park during a San Francisco Giants game. An even better view of the 49ers quarterback was made available by the Giants' official Twitter account and then shared again by Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.
The video below is notable because the quarterback had no issues waving to fans while delivering a handshake/slap to someone in a seat in front of him—all with his right arm.
Purdy had surgery on March 10 to repair the tear of the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in his right elbow—his throwing arm. The quarterback appears to be recovering well.
The effortless manner in which Brock Purdy waved and took a handshake/slap with his right hand is a clear indication his recovery from elbow surgery is coming along just fine. pic.twitter.com/qrdPBeVE4d
Purdy is expected to begin throwing again in June. The 49ers hope their second-year quarterback can return to the football field sometime in September. However, that timeline will become clearer after he starts throwing again.
For now, the 49ers will evaluate third-year quarterback Trey Lance and another former No. 3 overall pick, newly acquired quarterback Sam Darnold, to see which might be better suited to start Week 1, should Purdy not be ready to play.
San Francisco kicked off its offseason program this past week and will begin organized team activities (OTAs) on May 22.
