Texans interested in 49ers defensive coach Cory Undlin

Jan 31, 2023 at 7:06 PM--

According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston, the Texans are interested in San Francisco 49ers defensive pass game specialist/secondary coach Cory Undlin for their defensive coordinator job.

On Tuesday, the Texans hired former 49ers defensive coordinator DeMeco Ryans as their new head coach.

Undlin joined head coach Kyle Shanahan's staff in 2021. He has defensive coordinator experience, serving in the role with the Detroit Lions in 2020. Before that, he spent time in various roles with the Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, and New England Patriots. Undlin has been coaching in the NFL since 2004.

Undlin has been a part of two Super Bowl-winning teams, first as a defensive coaching assistant with the Patriots during the 2004 season and second as a defensive backs coach with the Eagles during the 2017 season.

By David Bonilla

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, understandably, was hesitant to field any questions about Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson. The coach holds the player in high esteem but doesn't want to get in trouble by discussing a player currently under contract with another organization. The reporter asked if there was any interest from the 49ers. "We've got three quarterbacks we're pretty good with right now," Shanahan responded, "and

49ers considered trading Mike McGlinchey last year

By David Bonilla
Mar 25

Mike McGlinchey received a life-changing payday, signing a five-year, $87.5 million deal with the Denver Broncos. The offensive tackle has known for a while that he would not return to the San Francisco 49ers, the only NFL team he has played for and the one that made him the No. 9 overall pick in 2018. General manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan made it clear to McGlinchey that he was likely playing his final months for the team. There was too much money invested in other spots, and the 49ers knew they couldn't compete with other interested teams. Behind the scenes, Lynch and Shanahan kept McGlinchey in the loop of what the team was thinking, and everything pointed to the tackle playing elsewhere in 2023 … maybe even
