49ers announce roster move ahead of Mexico game vs. Cardinals

Nov 21, 2022 at 2:09 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers announced they have elevated defensive lineman T.Y. McGill from their practice squad.

The 49ers are preparing to play the Arizona Cardinals at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Kickoff is scheduled for tonight at 5:15 p.m. PT, 7:15 p.m. local time. San Francisco is currently a 10-point favorite in the Week 11 matchup.

This is the third consecutive game in which the 49ers have elevated McGill from the practice squad. Three is the maximum number of times a player can be elevated from the practice squad. If the Niners wanted him available again, they would need to promote him to the active roster.

On Saturday, the team ruled out defensive lineman Arik Armstead for the upcoming international matchup. He is still dealing with foot and ankle injuries. In addition, San Francisco listed another defensive lineman, Samson Ebukam, as "questionable" due to a quadricep injury.

The San Francisco 49ers have signed defensive lineman Kemoko Turay to the team's practice squad. To make room on the practice squad, the team released cornerback Ka'dar Hollman. Turay (6-5, 253) was waived by the team on November 26 after defensive lineman T.Y. McGill was promoted to the active roster. The 49ers initially signed Hollman (6-0, 196) to the practice squad on October

On Friday, the San Francisco 49ers listed defensive lineman Arik Armstead (foot, ankle) as "doubtful" for Sunday's game against the New Orleans Saints. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel is "questionable" as he deals with a hamstring injury. In preparation for potentially missing Armstead, the 49ers announced that they have promoted defensive lineman T.Y. McGill from the practice squad to the active roster. They could not temporarily elevate him from the practice squad because the team had already done so three times, the maximum for one season. San Francisco waived defensive lineman Kemoko Turay to open the roster spot necessary for promoting McGill. Turay has been inactive for five games this season, including the past three. Charvarius Ward on DeAndre Hopkins after 49ers-Cardinals: "I don't respect his game. That's steroid boy"

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward joined KNBR's Greg Papa and Tim Ryan after Monday night's 38-10 win over the Arizona Cardinals. The two teams will meet again in Week 18, and the 49ers corner might have just given the Cardinals' top wideout some bulletin board material. Ward was unimpressed with DeAndre Hopkins and felt the Cardinals wide receiver was playing dirty in the Mexico City matchup. Hopkins finished the game with nine catches for 91 yards. However, he had just two catches for 14 yards in the second half as the 49ers defense continued its post-halftime dominant play. "D Hop, he think he a tough guy," Ward said, per Jake

Cardinals WR DeAndre Hopkins calls 49ers CB Charvarius Ward's post-game comments "laughable"

By David Bonilla
Nov 25

Following Monday night's game against the Arizona Cardinals in Mexico City, San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward had some harsh comments about wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. "He was getting locked up. He was doing some dirty things," Ward said after the game. "He tried to clip me, he grabbed me by the throat. He grabbed my facemask on one play, so I don't respect his game. That's steroid boy." That last part is a jab regarding Hopkins' earlier six-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing drugs. Hopkins spoke with reporters on Friday and had an opportunity to respond to Ward's
