"Damn, that's a lot of chicken," Deebo Samuel said, followed by a laugh, during the second part of a feature by Overtime SZN, the football channel for Overtime, that followed the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver this offseason.

That was the player's reaction a few weeks before training camp when the Niners made an initial contract offer. Samuel's girlfriend, Mahogany, said she thought Samuel was lying when the receiver shared the numbers with her.

"I'm like, 'I can't believe it,'" she said. "I said, 'We knew this day was coming, but to actually see it, we just both said, 'Wow.'"

Sitting with his agent, Tory Dandy, Samuel acknowledged that it looked like his dream was about to come true. He was about to cash in on a big payday and ensure he and his family was financially secure. Of course, all this came after a drama-filled offseason that saw the receiver request a trade and then block out the media.

"Sh-t, I've never seen those kind of numbers in my life, especially with my right beside it," Samuel admitted, laughing again.

That wasn't the offer that Samuel eventually agreed to. Dandy said there were still details that needed to be negotiated, the most important being the guaranteed money.

"I actually was kind of anticipating [the 49ers] being a little bit lower," Dandy admitted, "because sometimes teams want to do that and creep their way up, creep their way up throughout negotiations."

Samuel eventually accepted an offer from the 49ers, officially signing the deal on August 1, after training camp started. It was a three-year extension worth a maximum of $73.5 million with a signing bonus of $24 million and $58.1 million in total guarantees.

"I wanted to get the deal done before camp started," Samuel said. "I wanted to be out there the first week of camp. At the end of the day, we got it done. ... My number one priority is my son; set up college funds and all this stuff for him, so when it's time for him to go to school, just be whatever he want to be in life."

Amidst swirling trade rumors surrounding Brandon Aiyuk, the speculation surrounding Deebo Samuel's future with the San Francisco 49ers seems to have quieted down. According to Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle, the 49ers have assured Samuel that he will not be involved in any pre- or post-draft transactions, ensuring his place on the roster for the time being. "Samuel, who signed a three-year, $71.55 million extension before the 2022 season, has been assured by his bosses that he will not be dealt during or after the draft," Silver reported, citing a source familiar with the discussions. With the 2024 NFL Draft less than a week away, it's common for the rumor mill to start churning, especially with players who are actively seeking a new contract. It was just two short years ago that WR Deebo Samuel requested a trade from the San Francisco 49ers prior to draft day, only for cooler heads to prevail and eventually agree to a new deal. Now, it's WR Brandon Aiyuk's turn to try and get paid and rumors surfaced over the weekend that he too would request to be dealt. While that report was quickly shot down by his agent, there's still a lot of discussion about Aiyuk's future and if other teams will come calling on draft night. When asked about the possibility of wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk not being on the San Francisco 49ers roster on Friday morning, general manager John Lynch responded, "I wouldn't anticipate that." Lynch assured reporters that signing Aiyuk to a long-term extension is a priority, stating, "And our wish is that he's here and a part of the Niners for the rest of his career. We're working through that." While Lynch didn't elaborate on the conversations occurring behind closed doors, Michael Silver of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that a potential trade remains a

49ers' Brock Purdy focused on 2024, not contract 'nonsense'

By David Bonilla
Apr 22

During the NFL owners' meetings, San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York noted the significant rise in quarterback salaries in recent years. However, he acknowledged the market value of such players, recognizing that he'll have to sign a substantial check for his young quarterback, Brock Purdy, next year. York stated, "And to me, the quarterback is the most important position, not just in football, but in all sports, and those guys should be paid a lot." Last week, Brock Purdy addressed York's comments, showing no concern about the financial implications that will arise next year. Instead, he
