49ers players, media react to trade for Christian McCaffrey

Oct 20, 2022 at 9:38 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers sent shockwaves across the NFL with the news that they had traded for Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey. It wasn't cheap. The Niners, already without a first-round pick, figure to not do much work in next year's draft after trading their second-, third-, and fourth-round picks in 2023, plus a fifth-rounder in 2024 for the running back.

The 49ers shared the following post from the team's official Twitter account.

Several 49ers players, including quarterback Trey Lance, reacted to the news on social media.

Some former 49ers players were also shocked by the news.

This should make head coach Kyle Shanahan's Friday press conference very interesting. He is scheduled to speak with reporters after the afternoon practice.

A few 49ers beat writers have already weighed in on the story.

Even McCaffrey's alma mater had something to say.

Conor Orr continues his annual tradition of making 100 bold predictions for the upcoming season. That's a lot of predictions to sift through. Luckily for you, I've pulled out the San Francisco 49ers-related ones for this article. That doesn't mean the others aren't worth your time, though. So head over to the Sports Illustrated feature to peruse the remaining 96. For now, here are Orr's 49ers-related predictions. 49ers-Bengals Super Bowl clash The good news is that Orr predicts the 49ers to be among the Super Bowl participants in February. The bad news is that he has the Cincinnati Bengals handing San Francisco its third

Christian McCaffrey arrived with the San Francisco 49ers on October 21, the day after learning the Carolina Panthers traded him. Two days later, the star running back lined up with his new teammates against the Kansas City Chiefs. McCaffrey ended up elevating the 49ers offense to new heights. He started the next week against the Los Angeles Rams, earning rushing, receiving, and even a passing touchdown against his new division rival. San Francisco won that game and the 11 that followed. McCaffrey got more comfortable with the offense as the season continued. However, against the Chiefs, the running back's head was spinning. He only had a couple of days with the playbook, after

Could 49ers RB Jordan Mason be Christian McCaffrey's primary backup in 2023?

By Rohan Chakravarthi

The San Francisco 49ers added a duo of running backs prior to last season by selecting Tyrion Davis-Price in the third round and signing Jordan Mason as an undrafted free agent. Despite an injury to Elijah Mitchell in Week 1, neither running back saw an enhanced role, although Mason looked the part in training camp and the preseason. When provided an opportunity later in the season, Mason shined, averaging six yards per carry, while being used as a "closer" in certain situations for the 49ers. After a productive Year 1 with limited opportunities, can Jordan Mason climb the depth chart and potentially unseat Elijah Mitchell to become Christian McCaffrey's primary backup in

Brock Purdy vs. Christian McCaffrey: Who is more valuable to the 49ers in 2023?

It's that time of the offseason. The draft has come and gone, OTAs have just started up, but several months still remain between now and the first snap of the 2023 season. Given the lull in breaking news and big games, it's a good time to get a bit more... philosophical. Today, I wanted to compare two of the 49ers' biggest playmakers in the 2022 season - rookie QB sensation Brock Purdy and do-it-all RB Christian McCaffrey. The question is simple; given a full, healthy season, who does more to help the 49ers win a Super Bowl this year? Whose talents are the most vital to the annual quest for a Lombardi Trophy, and which one can San Francisco least afford to lose? These players, of course, play entirely different positions and occupy different roles on
