49ers-Seahawks: George Kittle not expected to play but remains a game-time decision

Sep 18, 2022 at 8:10 AM--

On Friday, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reported that San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle was unlikely to make his 2022 debut today against the Seattle Seahawks. Two days after Branch's report, ESPN's Adam Schefter still hears the same thing. The 49ers will likely play their home opener without their All-Pro offensive weapon.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Kittle will be a game-time decision, though, indicating that there remains a chance that the tight end will be suited up for this afternoon's action.

Kittle practiced on Friday. Although, he was limited. It was his first practice since suffering his groin strain on September 5.

Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports that the 49ers' goal is to have Kittle available for the team's Week 3 contest against the Denver Broncos, making it unlikely we'll see the tight end on the field against Seattle.

"Looked awesome," head coach Kyle Shanahan said of his tight end's work on Friday.

The injury forced Kittle to miss the team's Week 1 matchup in Chicago against the Bears. Although, there was some hope that he could play in that matchup too.

"He's healthier seven days later than he was last week when he was questionable [to play in Week 1]," Shanahan said on Friday.

The 49ers and Seahawks kick off from Levi's Stadium today at 1:05 p.m. PT.

George Kittle is likely to miss his 13th game since 2020. The San Francisco 49ers tight end is still working his way back from a groin strain, but isn't likely to be ready for this weekend's matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, per one report. "San Francisco 49ers star tight end George Kittle's serious groin injury is improving," wrote Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, "but not enough to where he's expected to play Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly." Kittle suffered his injury on September 5 and hasn't practiced since. He missed the 49ers' regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears. It's

49ers-Seahawks Injury Report: George Kittle 'healthier' but questionable for Sunday; Daniel Brunskill ruled out

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 2 contest against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Today's biggest injury-related news is the return of tight end George Kittle to practice. He had missed the past five practices, including two this week, after suffering a groin strain on September 5. Kittle missed the 49ers' Week 1 matchup against the Chicago Bears. While he is officially listed as "questionable" for Sunday, his return to practice bodes well for his chances of a return. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said there is more optimism regarding Kittle's chances of playing compared to last week. The team will

49ers-Seahawks: Kyle Shanahan says George Kittle still has a chance to play, isn't optimistic about Daniel Brunskill

Neither tight end George Kittle nor offensive lineman Daniel Brunskill practiced on Thursday. That's not a good sign regarding their potential availability for Sunday's pivotal Week 2 matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks. Kittle has not practiced since suffering a groin strain on September 5. Brunskill suffered a hamstring injury during the 49ers' exhibition opener and hasn't practiced since. Neither suited up this past weekend against the Chicago Bears. "Neither of them were able to [practice] today," Shanahan said Thursday on KNBR. "I'm holding out more hope for George. We haven't ruled Brunskill out yet, I don't believe, but I'd be shocked if Brunskill made it. George still has a chance." The 49ers are coming off a

49ers-Seahawks: George Kittle unlikely to play, per report

San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle made it back onto the practice field today. He hadn't practiced with his teammates since suffering a groin sprain on September 5, forcing him to miss the Week 1 matchup against the Chicago Bears. Kittle returning to practice was good news for the 49ers, who hope to get their All-Pro player back in time for this weekend's divisional bout with the Seattle Seahawks. Head coach Kyle Shanahan even sounded somewhat optimistic about Kittle's chances of a return, saying the tight end "looked awesome" during the Friday session. "He's healthier seven days later than he was last week when he was questionable
