49ers-Packers Injury Updates: Drake Jackson questionable with shoulder injury

Aug 12, 2022 at 6:46 PM--

The San Francisco 49ers opened their three-game 2022 exhibition schedule with their only preseason home game, a matchup against the Green Back Packers.

The Niners entered the game without their two starting cornerbacks, Charvarius Ward and Emmanuel Moseley. Ward is dealing with what head coach Kyle Shanahan called a "muscle strain," while Moseley is sidelined with a hamstring strain. Also out due to injury to start the game is defensive lineman Arik Armstead (knee sprain) and running back Elijah Mitchell (hamstring).

Several 49ers players, including tight end George Kittle, tackle Trent Williams, running back Jeff Wilson, fullback Kyle Juszczyk, wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk, defensive linemen Nick Bosa, Samson Ebukam, and Charles Omenihu, and linebackers Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw and Azeez Al-Shaair were not suited up for the preseason opener. These were not necessarily due to injuries.

Below are the 49ers-Packers in-game injury updates.

DE Drake Jackson (shoulder, questionable)

The rookie defensive lineman exited the game in the second quarter with a shoulder injury. The injury came after Jackson showed off his speed, chasing down Packers quarterback Jordan Love. Team personnel examined Jackson in the blue medical tent before the defensive lineman left for the locker room.

The 49ers later announced that Jackson is questionable to return. Of course, being preseason, Jackson's night is likely done.

Shanahan later said that Jackson is dealing with a shoulder stinger and will undergo further tests.

CB Dontae Johnson (rib)

Johnson went down in the fourth quarter but was able to get up, walk off the field without assistance, and make his way to the blue medical tent. The 49ers later announced that the cornerback was being evaluated for a concussion but then corrected themselves to say that it was actually a rib injury.

Bulkier Drake Jackson ready to attack 2023 with 49ers

By David Bonilla
May 31

When Drake Jackson stepped up to the podium after Wednesday's practice, there was something different about the San Francisco 49ers' second-year defensive end. He was bulkier, thanks to a lot of offseason work. "Drake has been here all summer, working out—all spring, rather—doing the things that he needs to do to improve his game," defensive coordinator Steve Wilks said earlier this month. "He's gained a lot of weight. He's in there with [defensive line coach Kris] Kocurek, and I'm just excited to see exactly what he's going to do and how he's going to progress in his second year." What are Jackson's expectations for his sophomore

What 49ers coach Kris Kocurek said about Drake Jackson, Javon Hargrave, Javon Kinlaw

Drake Jackson looks better prepared for his sophomore NFL season, both physically and mentally. The San Francisco 49ers defensive end spoke with reporters this week, and reports of his added bulk were visually confirmed. He estimates he has gained about 13 pounds since last season, and the work continues. His defensive line coach, Kris Kocurek, believes the added weight and better preparation will help Jackson last through the rigors of an NFL season. The coach has seen "significant strength gain" in his young defender. Jackson was inactive for six of the 49ers' final eight games last season, including each of the team's three playoff contests. Arik Armstead: 49ers can repeat as NFC West champs; Trey Lance has a bright future

By David Bonilla
May 25

San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Arik Armstead joined NFL Network's Good Morning Football on Thursday to discuss the state of the team at the start of organized team activities (OTAs). Armstead is part of a defensive line that includes NFL Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa and added former Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Javon Hargrave. The question that had to be asked: Does San Francisco own the best defensive line in football? "Well, on paper, I guess you could say that, but 'on paper' doesn't win any game," Armstead responded. "But we're excited about getting together and starting that journey of

49ers insider offers analysis from glimpse of Trey Lance and Sam Darnold

It's premature to draw conclusions about a quarterback based on practices in May. That is especially true when you do so based on one practice. The San Francisco 49ers started organized team activities (OTAs) this week, and all eyes were on Trey Lance and Sam Darnold. The two players are battling for that QB2 job behind last season's rookie sensation, Brock Purdy. One could even start Week 1 if Purdy is not healthy enough to do so himself. Lance is coming off a season-ending ankle injury but looks completely healthy now. Darnold is trying to turn his career around after never living up to his high draft status. Matt Barrows of The Athletic was on hand for Tuesday's practice, the only one open to reporters so far, and one that Barrows describes as a
