Fred Warner believes Deebo Samuel ‘loves the team’ but Pelissero says 49ers, WR remain in ‘standoff’

May 13, 2022 at 11:30 AM--

San Francisco 49ers star linebacker Fred Warner spoke with NFL Network's Tom Pelissero following the NFL's schedule release yesterday. The Pro Bowl and All-Pro defender was asked about his disgruntled teammate, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, who requested a trade this offseason.

Samuel is eligible for a contract extension, but there have been no updates on that front. And the 49ers didn't grant his wish for a trade either.

Warner told Pelissero that 49ers teammates, like quarterback Trey Lance and tight end George Kittle, have been in contact with Samuel since the trade request became public last month.

Pelissero pressed Warner to reveal his level of confidence that Samuel is playing for the 49ers come Week 1 against the Chicago Bears.

"I know that Deebo loves the team that he plays for," Warner responded, per Pelissero on NFL Network. "I know the type of teammate, the type of player that he is in that locker room, the amount of love that we have for him [and] he has for us. So I think it's just a matter of time before something gets done."

Pelissero added that Samuel remains "fairly convicted" in wanting to leave the 49ers.

"At this point, it is a standoff, and I would not anticipate that Deebo Samuel is going to be showing up any time particularly soon for any of the 49ers' offseason activities," said Pelissero.

Why John Lynch believes 49ers QB Brock Purdy is the "real deal"

By Rohan Chakravarthi
May 31

Over the offseason, there has been significant talk surrounding the San Francisco 49ers and their quarterbacks, especially after the team signed Sam Darnold in free agency, providing them three capable options with starting experience in the former Carolina Panther, Brock Purdy, and Trey Lance. Purdy is evidently the leader in the clubhouse, as stated by general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan several times this offseason, but many have pointed out his flaws, such as the inability to make throws downfield, as a reason why one of the other quarterbacks could win over the starting job with a strong performance in organized team activities(OTAs) and training camp. What do the 49ers believe about Purdy's downfield ability? General manager

What to make of Jeff Darlington's report on 49ers QB Trey Lance's first-team reps

By David Bonilla

ESPN's Jeff Darlington recently appeared on the network's NFL Live show and discussed the San Francisco 49ers' quarterback situation, highlighting Trey Lance's healthy state and current workload during organized team activities (OTAs). "Trey Lance is the guy during OTAs who's been taking all the 1st-team reps; he's healthy at this point," Darlington said, per Dov Kleiman of BroBible. "Sam Darnold really getting backup duty as he kinda gets his playbook under his belt. But for now, Trey Lance getting his opportunity with those first-team reps." What is the takeaway from these comments? Nothing, really. We

Sam Darnold working with first-team offense during 49ers OTAs

A somewhat bigger-than-necessary deal was made last week when reporters saw San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance taking the first-team reps in the first practice of organized team activities (OTAs) open to reporters. After the practice, head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked what, if anything, could be concluded from that. "It'll even out," Shanahan assured reporters. "We'll make sure to get that right." The coach made a point to add, "And the first-team is kind of funny because there's no [offensive] line out there. Most of our receivers are second- and third-team on the first-team today, so I'm curious what everyone thinks first- and second- and third-team is." The 49ers also made Wednesday's practice open to reporters as the team
