Mitchell Trubisky is scheduled to become a free agent after one season with the Buffalo Bills. During ESPN's Get Up, Bart Scott suggested that the San Francisco 49ers bring in 2017's No. 2 overall pick to back up last year's No. 3 overall pick, Trey Lance.
"I'd go get Mitchell Trubisky," Scott said. "You think about him and Trey Lance, having the same type of skill set, and you give Trey Lance an opportunity, but if he's not ready, you still have a veteran quarterback there where you can still try to win some games. And he gives you a unique opportunity to play because of his footwork, and because of his ability to be a dual-threat quarterback."

Scott is not among those who believe the 49ers should hold onto their starter of the last four-and-a-half seasons, Jimmy Garoppolo. Most expect the 49ers to trade the veteran quarterback this offseason. Scott believes that Garoppolo remaining in Santa Clara would cast a large shadow on Lance, something Trubisky would not do.
"If Mitchell Trubisky comes in, he's kind of like the Ryan Tannehill of football," Scott continued. "He's waiting, he's lurking, but he knows he's just trying to repair his image so he can go somewhere else. He understands that this is a short-term plan.
"If Jimmy G wins a championship, then what do you do? It's a great problem to have, but I think that Mitchell Trubisky would give you the same opportunity to win that Jimmy G would."
Trubisky has completed 64.1 percent of his passes for 10,652 yards with 64 touchdowns and 38 interceptions in his 57 game appearances and 50 starts through five NFL seasons. The vast majority of that came during his four seasons with his first NFL team, the Chicago Bears.
